Director, Marie Claire O'Hare brings over seventeen years of experience and a diverse professional design portfolio in a career spanning America, Europe and Australia.  She has recently successfully lead an array of complex projects in Melbourne including The Elizabeth Street Master Plan, The Elizabeth Street South Streetscape Plan and Flinders Street Station Precinct Plan for City of Melbourne. Marie Claire oversees all studio projects and is responsible for design quality and providing strategic leadership to the team.

Urban Design & Strategic Place-making /

Urban design, architecture and strategic planning experience forms the complimentary suite of our core expertise and professional services.  We provide independent advice to our clients who include, local councils, government agencies, private sector institutions and individuals.

Our services include:

Design Review & Expert Witness /

We provide independent review of development proposals,  plans, strategies,  policies and frameworks. Marie Claire has appeared on numerous occasions as an urban design expert witness for development proposals within Melbourne's central city. Other contributions include the critical review of urban design principles underpinning some of the federal government's most significant transport infrastructure projects and redevelopment sites in Victoria.  She has previously contributed to The Flinders Street Station International Design Competition representing City of Melbourne as a member of the technical review panel.

Community Infrastructure Planning /

Phlosc are building upon leading research undertaken for City of Melbourne, which focuses on the inter-dependent relationship between walk-able neighbourhoods and community infrastructure provision.  Our methodology has evolved to include a program of robust primary data collection and analysis techniques merging the line between social planning and urban design.

The findings and recommendations of the completed research to date continues to inform the planning of future community infrastructure needs within Melbourne's growth areas.

Research & Teaching / 

Marie Claire is a regular attendee at the University of Melbourne as guest lecturer and contributor to design studio critiques. Currently she is a member of the external advisory board for the Urban Design Masters Course at the University of Melbourne and has previously represented the Planning Institute of Australia in the evaluation and formal accreditation of urban design courses within Melbourne.

Phlosc's current research topics include defining new data collection techniques to better inform the planning,  placement and uses of community infrastructure within Victoria's growth areas.
